14 shades of grey
This is my life
Its not what it was before
All these feelings I’ve shared
And these are my dreams
That I’d never lived before
Somebody shake me
Cause I,
I must be sleepingChorus:
Now that we're here
Its so far away
All the struggle
We thought was in vain
And all the mistakes
One life contained
They all finally start to go away
And now that we're here,
I'ts so far away
And I feel like I can face the day
And I can forgive
And I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am todayThese are my words
That I’ve never said before
I think I’m doing okay
And this is the smile
That I’ve never shown beforeSomebody shake me
Cause I
I must be sleeping
Chorus:
Now that we're here
Its so far away
All the struggle
We thought was in vain
And all the mistakes
One life contained
They all finally start to go away
And now that we're here,
Its so far away
And I feel like I can face the day
And I can forgive
And I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am today
I’m so afraid of waking
Please don't shake me
Afraid of waking
Please don't shake me
Chorus:
Now that we're here
Its so far away
All the struggle
We thought was in vain
And all the mistakes
One life contained
They all finally start to go away
And now that we're here,
Its so far away
And I feel like I can face the day
And I can forgive
And I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am today

Inside your heavenIn this life, there are many friends that you'll make in your journey, and some of them will turn out to be one of your most loyal friends, while others might turn out to be just friends. Maybe you'll keep in touch with a select few buddies, but I guess for the majority of them you would lose touch with after going your separate ways when you've finished your education. Personally, I think good and trustworthy friends are kinda hard to find nowadays, and people tend to have tendencies to backstab and stuff. Friends that you'll lose along the way, once so close to you, drifted apart as the mysterious substance, time, increases, reducing contact between you and your friend. I would love to see just in 5 years down the road, how many friends of mine from MI will I still be in contact with. Probably some, probably when I meet them on the train, I'll just pretend not to know them and ignore them. Sounds familiar?Apparently, file checking season is here and obviously, there has been a noticeable frenzy among classmates to get all their notes to file it into their, well, files. Unexpectedly, both of my paper 1 and paper 8 lit teachers who are from toh tuck, turned out to be HODs, which means their files (ie. our files) would be given to the principal for checking. Im not even sure whether I would have anything to file into my file. I seem to be repeating the word file quite a number of times. Just around 2 months left to promos, and i gotta start some self revision everyday to keep myself up and floating, lest i sink and drown, thus wasting my efforts and time staying in MI. Im heading to bed already. At least when Im asleep, I dun have to think about all these problems surrounding me and threatening to suffocate.
Argh. Time is against me.
If I had my way, I'll tear down the facade you guys are hiding behind, piece by piece.

Somehow after all this mess called the Mid Years, endless thinking on whether I would fail them badly and not be able to promote myself up to year 3 at the end of this year, and fretting over my decision of staying in MI which ultimately led to all this crap, I've secured 1A and 2AO passes. How lucky!
Well honestly, as long as I've achieved this, Im plenty grateful enough.
Im looking for a reason that doesnt exists.

Oh by the way before i forget. Someone reminded me that I once told her that as with every issues in life that you come to deal with, its more of your attitude towards it and if in any way you're unhappy with something, you should change your viewpoint.
I guess the pay it forward theory is really true. What goes around comes around.
I even forgot i gave that advice in the first place.
As school today drew towards a close, as did my emotional stability, except it went downhill =) i got gradually got more and more angry, which others see and think that Im depressed instead. Remember a few weeks back when I talked about losing myself? I think if I dun get a grip on my feelings, I'll hurt somebody.
Truth is, I might have been itching for a fight, probably to vent out the frustrations I've been feeling. Maybe the monster that I've pushed deep down within me, not to scare myself again at the rage I could go into, is threatening to break free from its chains to surface again.
Left school as soon as i didnt see any need to stay anymore. Apparently dom decided not to go catch his movie and instead planned with sk and ailing to go somewhere in changi to eat. As i was leaving school, was thinking about how weird is this again, going home alone again for the second time in 2 months, giving myself the opportunity to think again. As i was reaching the bus stop, my bus came and left, making me curse my misfortune. Approaching the bus stop, I saw a couple of easily excitable secondary school girls from the nearby secondary school and since I wasnt really in the mood for tolerance, made a snap decision on the spot and decided to walk home from school. The relatively short walk took about 2 hours and when I took it, I was expecting to do some serious thinking but turns out that it tires me out too much, and the walk was one of the most dangerous ones I've ever did, since construction works were going on at Upper Paya Lebar, I had to walk on the road beside the guard rail, and having this peculiar sensation that everytime a car/lorry/bus passed me, it was going to hit me. After all, it was only so close! All i had to do to lose one arm was to stretch it towards the traffic.
Went home, updated my blog with the earlier post and went to sleep. Waking up, i realised my mom didnt order dinner for me and i had to order mine myself (since we stay in geylang, we can order takeaway from the various zhi cha stores). I then informed my mom now she had to write a letter to explain why she wouldnt go to school to meet my teachers. She went talking about how the teachers wanted to see her, which would make no difference since she cant control and dun know what im doing most of the time anyway, and what kinda stupid son she has. Finally she made a disparaging remark, wondering how would I be able to get a job with my "qualifications". I told her there was no connection with that and her writing a letter to explain why she didnt want to go and meet my teachers. Besides, I am still studying and therefore, am not looking for a job yet anyway. We had a slight row over this, as like always.
After the row, my dad came out and took a look at the food we ordered and saw that there was one full packet of beehoon (xin zhou mee fen) and saw that I was eating something else, he naturally assumed that since I ordered my food later than the rest (rest being my mom and sister) , that I didnt want to eat the beehoon and thus, the ordering of my own food later and being unappreciative of the money he and my mom takes home, and raised his voice (mildly shouted) at me for being ungrateful and such. Such a father, no wonder I have promised myself not to be like him and buried my own temper deep within me. Anyway, I told him quietly (since I've not yet started shouting at my father, only my mom) that the stupid fucking packet of beehoon wasnt mine and it was them (them being my mom and sis) who ordered the additional packet. Turns out that my sister wanted that additional packet for her anime tonight, and he stopped being angry at once, by the way, forgetting to apologize for raising his voice at me coincindentally, which doesnt matter to me since he has been doing that to me for probably all 18 years of my life. Come to think of it, sk sorta reminds me of him when he shouts at other people.
I've got a bloody sad life dun I?
Just in case you're feeling pity or worried for me, let me tell you something...
I do not need it.The above isnt true at all. Haha.
I don't see the point.
I've been thinking for these past few weeks. what's new? I don't see the point in making the world a better place. Within myself, i feel the turmoil. i feel like i've lost so much. my possessions were not only taken away, but i (as a fool) have splendored in generosity as well.
what does kindness bring? what is too much kindness? Am i just creating a trap for myself? Am i digging a hole deeper than deep that i can never recover from?
And the irony of it all... is that when someone, less kind, gets all the things he wants - i feel like life itself loathes me. What kingdom awaits me, when i can't see where i am currently moving towards? this life is sickening when it wants so much out of you, and yet you can only give so much because we are afraid to risk our all.
what kind of abomination is this? i know i am not worthy, but then again, there are others less worthy than i.
All for nothing.
I don't see the point.
i don't see the point anymore.

If you could do one thing...A few months ago, Parade Magazine ran
an article by Norman Mailer in which he answered the question: if you could do one thing to change America for the better, what would it be? His answer: ban television commericials because the constant interruptions by TV ads were interfereing with our children's ability to concentrate and thus to read and succeed in school and in the world.
I'm not sure Mailer chose the best problem to focus on here (if the "constant interruption" thing is even an issue...look at how long kids stay glued to the television), but I believe he's on the right track in focusing on education. In choosing an answer to this question that would make the most impact, it seems prudent to focus on answers that satisfy two requirements:
1. Get 'em early. Kids are the most malleable members of a society and much significant change starts with the younger generations. Anything that impacts education will likely have a large eventual effect.
2. Choose a course of action with significant emergent behavior and a positive feedback cycle...basically a cascade effect. Find the best place to punch a tiny hole in the dam so the whole thing eventually bursts.
Nothing I have come up with so far satisfies those criteria and
you're collectively supposed to be much smarter than I am, so I'm asking you: if you could do one thing to change America for the better, what would it be (and why)?
taken off kottke.org.
Think about it, but in the singapore context.

EpiphanyI recently started listening to some of the songs that i used to listen to just a couple of years back. This songs include some bands like Linkin Park, HIM, Cranberries, etc...Everytime a familiar chord plays from the song of these bands, a whole pool of memories and emotions will rush back onto me, threatening to engulf me. Weird thing is, these memories mainly contained of the mistakes that I've made, and serving to remind me that even though time has passed, guilt has not let me off yet.
5 years down the road, if i start to dig up some of the songs I listen to now, would I question how I've lived my life now. I've just met up with quite a few of my secondary school classmates, and to think we've had such good times together in sas. The ruckus we've created, failing the subjects together, laughing at the nonsensical jokes "why ah?", "thanks lor", the after school street soccer at kolam ayer even though our prelims were gonna start, so much so that I could have said we've bonded so well like brothers.
A mere 1 year has separated some of us, and all of us have changed beyond how I would have expected them to us. 2 of them has tattoos now, quite a few has started smoking, most of them are enjoying themselves in poly and finally, a select few slaving away in jc and still wondering whether we've made the right choice.
Many times in our lives we've look backed, and thought about the paths we've taken, and this was certainly one of the times where I've clearly missed that one path I've trodden upon for 4 years with this wonderful group of people.
I miss secondary school life.
If only music could be put into words, how beautiful would the language be.

Scenes from a memory
Since the history paper today only started at 11.30am, I didnt have to get up early and ended up chatting with various friends till 3am. Although the events of last night was relatively vague now due to my fatigue, I recall falling off my chair a few times since I was so amused. Haha.
Anyway while on the bus to school today, a kid probably with down syndrome got onto the bus at paya lebar mrt station. What drew my attention to him was first of his looks, where you can pretty much deduce that he's not really normal like the rest of us. Anyway, I noticed he was carrying one whole thick stack of Today, which made me wonder what he planned to do with them. I soon found out the answer when the bus reached the next bus stop, where passengers started to get on and he started giving them a copy of Today each. Somehow his thoughtfulness, usually so unseen in even sane people like us, touched a chord within me. This small little incident made my day brighter.
As for chinese AO oral, somehow the topics for this year are hard, for what I received was "The Singapore Government is opening up reservoirs for watersports, what are your views on this?" I mean if i got this for gp oral instead, it'll pretty be much easier for me definitely. Anyway the bloody auditorium was damn cold, and we had to walk like 30 meters from where we had to wait to where the examiners are. So when they beckoned for me to go forward, I had this feeling that I was walking towards my doom. Amazingly though, it went quite smoothly (in my opinion) and I hope I didnt screw up big time.
Went down to SAS after that to take them for sectionals, which was pretty...unproductive. I shouldnt have went down, it kinda wasted my time as all of them knew their work and were already that good. The percussion section was one of the best I've seen so far in my 6 years of band, in which I spent 4 years myself. Felt some sort of pride that I have taught such fine young men myself.
Unexpectedly, sajc turned up for band prac there and i knew i should have noticed something was amiss when their members slowly trickled in throughout the afternoon. I thought they were just there as alumni to help. A sort of feeling kinda hit me, and it would probably seem like deja vu and probably a touch of familiarity and yet not familiarity. Contradicting feelings juxtaposing through me made me feel uncomfortable, so I left soon after that.
Face the candle to the wind, and watch it try to stay alive and slowly, yet inevitably, flicker out and die.

Just a curbside prophet
In a blink of an eye, the horror of the Mid years are already almost over and I've even gotten over my fear of failing and got resigned to fate. Lets do a recount of the papers, and only the A level subs at that.
.
..
...
....
Come to think of it, all subjects were equally disastrous. I didnt know how to do two thirds of most papers i sat for, especially econs and history. And as for lit, paper 8 (poem) was really hard and abstract and i didnt really get what it was talking about. Im finished. Murdered softly by the Mid years exams. But its not as if I tried to do anything to stop it either.
Took this off the blog of a friend who took it off the blog of another friend.
You never knew the hurt and the disappointment you subjected me to constantly. I never told you. That's my fault.
Your score indicates that you are a fairly healthy sexual being.You are somewhat aware of whom you are, what you want, and what is best for you. You are usually comfortable with yourself and those you love. You enjoy a loving relationship, and would prefer a monogamous relationship. You sometimes hold back during sex, not always telling your partner what you want, but are always willing to listen to his/her needs. Sex is not the most important thing in your life, but may be the most important thing in your relationships. Work hard to communicate well with your partner, stay true to yourself, and you will continue to do well in your sexual life and health.

Like many women, Rosanne Collins* had her share of one-night stands in graduate school. But instead of outgrowing that risky behavior as she got older, it only escalated as she reached her early 30s. Rosanne started going online and spending hours emailing strangers in Internet chat rooms. "I'd meet people online and engage in sexual intercourse with them at their house," she recalls. "I remember doing that for the first time and thinking, I've got to do this again. Not because it was wonderful, but because it wasn't enough. You're looking for something to make you feel better."
Rosanne thought about sex all the time. In the same way some people daydream about an upcoming vacation, she would spend hours at work thinking about getting home and logging onto her computer ‑- and who she'd meet online. "It's not like a fantasy; for me, it was about the planning and the anticipation," she says. "The sex itself was always bad. There's nothing about it that's satisfying. And yet it's never enough to make you stop. I even remember times when I'd be in the middle of a sexual encounter, and I would be planning the next one in my head. There's such a high that goes along with the pursuit of the next sexual encounter."
Just as alcoholics aren't choosy about what they drink, Rosanne didn't care whether she was attracted to the men she slept with. "It's not about the person," she explains. "You're just looking for something. If you're on the Internet, willing to have sex with someone you've never seen, anything will do. At the same time, you are so disgusted with yourself ‑- you want to physically clean yourself afterward. You can't believe that you'd do this, and yet you start to look for something again."
It was not unusual for Rosanne to sleep with three different men over the course of a weekend. Fortunately, her fear of getting pregnant ‑- which would have forced her to explain her situation to friends and family ‑- kept her vigilant about using condoms, and amazingly she never caught an STD. She kept her compulsion a guarded secret from friends and family because she was so ashamed. Although close friends knew that various men would call Rosanne and that she was always out meeting some guy, she would explain it away by saying it was a friend of a friend. Instead of questioning it, her loved ones chalked up Rosanne's behavior to being an outgoing person and having a large network of friends.

Instead of questioning it, her loved ones chalked up Rosanne's behavior to being an outgoing person and having a large network of friends.
After years of risky rendezvous, Rosanne felt overwhelmingly sad and heartbroken about her all-consuming behavior. At the age of 36, she'd hit rock bottom. But a fortuitous trip to the library would change all that. While walking down an aisle of bookshelves, she spotted a book called Don't Call It Love: Recovery from Sexual Addiction by Patrick Carnes. Curious, Rosanne flipped through the book and instantly recognized herself in it. She checked out the book and devoured it immediately. "I didn't know how to stop [my sexual behavior], but I knew that I had to," she says. "I realized that if there was one thing I could do to stop this train to hell, it was to get the computer out of my house. So I unplugged the computer, put it in my trunk, drove to a friend's house and said, 'Will you hold onto this for me? Don't ask why ‑- I'll explain later.'"
She found group therapy for women sex addicts, and eventually located a therapist in her hometown who specializes in sex addiction. Through one-on-one therapy, Rosanne realized her cycle of shameful behavior was a reaction to being sexually abused as a child and worked on her confused feelings about intimacy and sex.
With other addictions, you must abstain completely, but sex addicts aren't necessarily expected to give up sex for life. Instead, they have to learn how to have a healthy, normal sex life. To help "rewire" her attitude, Rosanne made a celibacy contract with herself, stipulating that she'd be sex-free for 90 days. "You find out that you don't drop dead if you don't have sex," she says. "You ease yourself back into things. You don't sleep with people the first time they show up at your door. You start getting to know people and learning to be intimate. You have sex because you want to and not because you have to or want to fix something."
When Rosanne ‑- now 43, single and recovered ‑- looks back on her painful past, she still cries because it's so heartbreaking to her. "Even though it seems like a lifetime ago, it doesn't take long for it to feel so real, like it was yesterday," she says. "I will never forget that's where I was and how far I've come."
If you or someone you know is concerned about sexual addiction, you can get information and find support groups through Sexaholics Anonymous.

I think for the first time in my life, I would enter the mid years not even preparing for it at all. And i mean it. Which means i'll fail every single subject with the small probability of except Lit, which I do not have much confidence in either.
Of which i went to study with sk and dom today, and although it might not have been extremely rewarding, i guess we all managed to accomplished something.
I would say that the most interesting thing of all, is that i found out from sk and dom. I dun feel like putting here the exact words they said to me, so i shall modify it and place it here to remind myself.
In search of the truth, not only have I not succeeded, but I have not even realised I lost myself.I'll try to regain my character again.

I am currently bleeding from my face.Although my blog post actually has nothing to do with that. What i wanted to blog about is about my potentially (actually already confirmed) disastrous mid years. I fear what would my parents say if they found out about my soon to be atrocious results. Maybe they might flip. Maybe they'll just say you better study harder. Maybe they wont care at all.
I wished there'll be lesser pressure on us to perform so darn well for our exams. I remembered a letter sent to newsweek magazine about singapore (my school have us read a different issue every week and answer questions based on various articles) and this guy from blangadesh, India said that although Singapore now is one of the best countries(in terms of political stability and economic terms) in the region, it only produces good test takers, not good problem solvers like what other countries produce. I got so infuriated that i told dominic on the spot we should just nuke India, bypassing North Korea (i have always been of the opinion that we should invade N. Korea) anyway after i've calmed down, I realised that what that guy say is partly right, that out of the education system, it has been to that point where we're indoctrined to study and study and study....
The fact remains that our education system produces muggers and not problem solvers. I wished that there was lesser emphasis on books and more hands on approach. You people might say, go to the poly then! Why ever did you choose to stay in MI?! Think about it. How many of our uni grads from local unis get jobs, and even so, what kinda jobs do they get? Its kinda vague isnt it?
Bah...

Im on the verge of losing myself.
After staying on this page waiting for inspiration to come to me on what to write (and before blogger shows me the expired session message), I think I've finally thought of something decent, and probably bound to illicit questions from my fellow classmates...no matter though, here goes.
I hate the way you make me waver on my resolution;
even after I had thought that it was impossible between us.I hate the way you attract me with your character;
which I've tried never to fall for.I hate the way you make me jealous when you received more attention from others;
though i know I shouldnt be.I hate the way you are attentive to the whims and fancies of the others;
of which the same thoughtfulness I've never received.I hate the way you look and treat me only as a friend;
on wishful part of my own, it only makes me wish that there was something more.I hate the way you can go on without my presence;
I would only wish for you to really notice my presence.I hate the way when you show me concern and attention;
it only makes me crave for more.I hate the way I get mildly jealous when other guys talk to you;
it shockes me, for it is not in my character to react like this.I hate the way I feel strangely comforted when you're around;
it makes me feel as though I'm over dependent on someone I shouldnt be.I hate the way I have to think about what to write about you here;
you only stay in my mind more often.I hate to say it, but I think I've fallen for you.If you would like to think the above is true, and ask and bug me about it, you'll only piss me off. I might smile and laugh but after leaving school, i find it hard to maintain that cheerful exterior. The above was only inspired by the various songs I've been listening over the past few days, some of the conversations I've had with my friends, listening to their problems and finally, my own frustrations. Close friends need not worry about me, I do not know what has been making me depressed either, probably a combination of factors plus the correct timing.

 You are elegant, withdrawn, and brilliant. Your mind is a weapon, able to solve any puzzle. You are also great at poking holes in arguments and common beliefs.
For you, comfort and calm are very important. You tend to thrive on your own and shrug off most affection. You prefer to protect your emotions and stay strong. |
The True You |
| You want your girlfriend or boyfriend to be more relaxed, calm, and composed. |
| With respect to money, you spend as little as possible. |
| You think good luck doesn't exist - reality is built on practicalities. |
| The hidden side of your personality tends to be satisfied to care for things with a minimal amount of effort. |
| You are tend to think about others' feelings a lot, perhaps because you are so eager to be liked. |
| When it comes to finding a romantic partner, you base your search on information from your friends. |
117th IOC Session Singapore. Conclusion.London has been announced as the next city to host the 2012 Olympic games, winning Paris, the runner up by 4 votes.
I wonder what dominic would say when they announced the winning city today. He was so insistent and adamant that they would only have the 2 final cities today and only announce the winning city only on saturday. From experience, I think I should expect that he might start denying he said any of this in the first place.
Game on.
117th IOC Session. 1st Day.For the first time, i've returned home alone straight after school. This has not happened since...probably when i used to walk out with rachel to take our respective buses home early last year .
Well lets move on. I dun wish to elaborate on how I managed to lose my 2-3 weeks old phone yesterday, but I think I left it in the cab when i alighted. I'll just say I lost 3 phones, of which total value should hit to a close 2000 bucks. First, the 6100, then the n7250i, and finally, the sony ericsson k750i. I would like to say losing the 6100 was the same situation too. It was afterall, only about a week or two old. Adding the lost of my bike to theft, I would say i managed to lose over 2500 bucks in goods. Thats probably after depreciation though.
As for the mid years exams, I've finally started worrying about them although I think its a little bit too late to save myself. I think I would need to mug extremely hard for the end of years or risk retaining and making all my enemies that wish to see me fall happy. Not to worry though, since I've always got a back up route.
I've been wanting to say this since the saturday/sunday of my wisdom tooth extraction, which was 2 weeks ago but never really got around to saying it. After my surgery, my grandparents were extremely worried for my health and decided to come over to cook lunch (despite me assuring them that I would be fine) The amount of care and concern that my grandparents showed me really touched me, as if my really close friends now, my mom and to a large extent, my dad do not really care whether I live or die. We are just strangers related by blood thats all.
Anyway, I would pray to the Lord, Buddha, Vishnu or whatever it is that resides above us all, please please keep my grandparents healthy and safe and ensure that they would remain like that for the rest of their lives. They have been extremely good to me and I would really appreciate it if you watched out for them. Thanks.
A sense of sadness that I've not felt since i broke up with my ex struck me unexpectedly today. I probably need to do some thinking again.Now playing : Michael Buble, Home

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLY!That was the highlight of the day, other than the jeremy monteiro and the chicago connection that dom, sk and i were going to watch later this evening. And truth to be told, the concert was a blast although the first half was just a little slow and a sleep bringer. However through the second half they switched to swing and got the whole concert hall's attention. On a side note, i didnt know it was supposed to be the syf opening ceremony that day. Seeing so many different cultural groups from different schools gave me a nostalgic feeling, making me wish i was back in sas, and part of the band which will be performing for presentation night. For those that do not know, presentation night is the night where all the top bands in singapore come to perform on one stage in esplanade, and the bands i could only remember was St Andrew's School, Anglo Chinese Independent, St Andrew's Junior College and Temasek Junior College. There's another secondary school which i forgot, but i believe the highlight of that night would be the saints' performance. An Evening with the Saints at Esplanade one more time!Up and On!
