Craving for SandwichesNamed after an 18th century British Earl, the sandwich's actual invention dates back to a rabbi who lived in the first century B.C.. In my short history, I've eaten more than my fair share of sandwiches and while I can't consider myself a true connoisseur, the humble sandwich is one of my favorite things to eat and the ultimate in comfort foods.
The keys to a good sandwich are the three Bs: bread, balance, and...ok, there's only two Bs, but they're important. Aside from the main ingredient (turkey, tuna, chicken salad, etc.), the bread has the power to make or break a sandwich. Somehow, wholemeal bread has never quite cut it for me, and all along I've always preferred white bread. Maybe its because of the significantly sweeter taste and smoother feel. The first thing you taste when you take a bite is the bread, so it had better be good and it had better be fresh.
Balance, or how the various parts come together to make a whole sandwich experience, is even more critical than the bread. Too much meat and the sandwich tastes only of meat. Too much mustard and you overwhelm that beautiful pastrami. The mighty sandwich should not be a lowly conduit for your mustard addiction; why not just eat it straight from the jar instead? If you've got a dry bread, add a slice of tomato, some lettuce, a little extra mayo, or save it for tuna or egg salad. If you've got a lot of bread, you'll probably need more of everything else to balance it out. Make sure the ingredients are distributed evenly throughout the sandwich. You should get a bit of everything in each bite. If the sandwich maker is doing his job right, you should be able to taste most of the ingredients separately and together at the same time.

I've been playing WoW almost all the time Im at home, even taking to skipping the last day of school to catch up with some WoW action(yes i admit im guilty of being addicted to WoW already), and now after just receiving a call from my chinese teacher asking me to go for chinese lessons tmr, Im reminded painfully that I've got tasks yet unfulfilled, namely the AO Mother Tongue paper which takes place on monday, and the Project Work Oral Presentation, which includes my Insights & Reflections.
Haha as for my statistics...A little boasting yup? Level 20 in about 5 days. Cool, no?
So ask me. Whats not cool about WoW?

This is the first time I skipped school, and I received so many calls and smses from my friends and teacher urging me to come to school. My plan to sleep late has been ruined by the first message, which came around 8:15am. My resolution. If i ever want to skip school and sleep late again, I will remember to set my hp to silent. At least it will guarantee me a few more hours of sleep.
Fulfilled one of my aims during the hols, I stayed at home today and played a little bit of WoW. Was due to go out with dom to watch 2 movies, but due to the rain which was threatening to get heavier, and the prospect of resting at home(which was why I skipped school for), I decided to stand him up at the last minute.
Dom said he expected it.
Anyway...went on to play WoW for the better part of the afternoon, and then finally retiring to bed for my afternoon nap. Did i tell you i have seaweed rice crackers? They're delicious.

Rainy weather, which reflect some moods as well. After getting back the promotional exams exam scripts, some people started worrying over whether they would be able to go to year3 next year, and what would they do if they did not. Most of us did make it if not barely to year3, and without that sad handful, the observation is that 04b4 might be a dead class next year. (Some other time I will describe the cruel promotional exercise to you guys.)
Okay. For now, my main point for today's post.
The question that has been bugging all of us since i-forgot-when:
Does Mark likes Elly?
Of course, I've heard bits and pieces about this, and have never really have a full unbiased version of this regretfully =( There are various conflicting versions, and mark himself maintains his innocence and that he does not have any intentions towards her.
Today while Sk, elly and me were having our dinner at KFC, Mark called Elly to ask her about her promotional exam results.
Lets ignore the fact we already knew on monday(yesterday) that all of us had made it to year3 and there was no reason to call SINCE we have already received confirmation.
I can give you 3 reasonable reasons why he called her.
Reason no.1 - He doesnt like her and wants to know how badly she fared. But since he talks to her most of the time and all and sometimes adopts the I-Am-In-Cute-Mode, I doubt this reason is possible.
Reason no.2 - He is just concerned for a friend. Quite possible. But am I not his friend too? Why did I not receive a call from him, and neither did sk? Shows that Mark obviously places Elly's piority in his friends list way above me and sk, which means he likes Elly more than us. WHICH brings me to the 3rd reason.
Reason no.3 - He has developed a liking for her and refuses to admit it. If it is not because of this, it just means he's a sexist and treats girls better than us. And who in the world are always fighting for equality between sexes?
I called mark later after he called elly, and he didnt answer my call. I will leave you guys to make your own conclusions on that.
Cross reference this to
Bert's blog, where it contains a more detailed account of mark's adventures, and you'll get a vague idea of what Im saying.
Mark. I AM NOT SCOLDING YOU. I blogged about what I see, and you did do such stuff.
Elly. I am so sorry I had to drag you into this. But anyway I did not use your REAL name and besides, its just the fact that you were on mark's list and he had to call you when I was around.
I am however, more inclined to take Mark's word that he does not like her. Maybe he just likes the attention that he gets from us, arousing our curiousity when he hits on a new girl.

List of things to do till the end of hols.
Finish watching Return of the Condor Heroes 95.
Play WoW everyday and hit level 40 at least.
Try to study a little to reinforce my foundation. Okay. Maybe this is a little stupid.
Save money.

What a joke. Oh by the way, Daniel Craig will be the new Bond, James Bond and would be appearing in the next double0-7 film, Casino Royale, where filming will begin in January. Other actors that were considered for the role included: Clive Owen, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, and Eric Bana.
Recently due to the end of promos, I've decided to consider taking up a new game to spend some time during the holidays. If not I'll be stoning throughout for half of november and the better part of december at least, which in my opinion would be better spent playing some game.
The game I've shortlisted is WoW, or better known as World of Warcraft. Frankly, there arent many eye catching games out there anyway. Despite the monthly payments, I would think that it can be a financially sound investment even though if I dun play it all the time. After all from the rave reviews WoW has received, it seems as though as it has redefined MMORPG.
But then again, this brings me to the main point of this post, the reviews. How should do you know the reviewer(critics) are not biased? The information given might be flawed? This critics are given free copies of WoW to try on, albeit the fact that they would have to pay for the monthly fees(although im not so sure about the fact here), and besides, what kind of relationship would they have with Blizzard?
This probably sounds like a familar argument to many, like in the cases of movie critics, book critics and not to even forget our very own history students. It's often a problem of access vs. independence and objectivity. For information to be obtained, some sort of access is often required, but then the reader might worry about a biased report(as in the case of WoW).
Trust is the word. Do you trust a particular source of information to balance her need for access to the story with the desire of her readers for her to remain as independent and fair-minded as possible? I believe that if we want better reviews, we need to be better readers and take a more active role in how we deal with information.
When reading, you should be asking yourself, is the writer being fair here? Have they been fair in the past? If the piece you're reading appears in the Straits Times or the Utusan Malaysia(history students take note here), how does the political orientation (if any) affect what gets printed in the paper? Are music critics biased in their reviews because they receive free review CDs in the mail? If so, does that make the reviews completely worthless? If they don't disclose things like personal relationships to their subjects, and the like, does that completely negate the review? Or can you adjust your opinion of the reviews to get something worthwhile out of them anyway?
Dealing with information has always been an imprecise science; there's no such thing as complete objectivity. With technology improving all the time, and the influx of information that comes with it, we have to learn to deal with it. As readers, we can encourage the writers whose work we read to be as fair as possible.
Written with help from kottke.org. Thanks Jason.
This might sound random, but I've heard from a girl friend that girls are much better kissers than guys.

Let us now bow our heads in prayer.
Our Father in heaven,
I've missed the past where I did not have to worry about promotions and NS and entering the real world so soon. Now, I've realised how close I am to stepping into the society. I want to relive the good old days again.
I miss wearing the white and blue uniform. I miss wearing my tie by just tying one knot and slipping the whole tie through, an extremely untidy way of tying. I miss singing hymns during morning assembly. I miss laughing at Mr Gordon Goh and all his lame Star Wars jokes. I miss Mr Lam, and him wanting to be the Fuhrer, supreme leader of the universe. I miss being part 4s2, the laughter clowns of sas. I miss playing soccer with my classmates in the basketball court. I miss playing soccer with my band mates in the basketball court till dark. I miss playing soccer with my band mates in the bandroom. I miss chilling outwith the brothers in Potong Pasir Macs after band prac till 9pm. I miss laughing at other people bullying sandeep and calling karnjote "TONCHEK!". I miss laughing at yusoff and karnjote arguing over their mothers "YOUR MOTHER I TELL YOU!". I miss playing on the stage again with the brothers in the only band I'll ever truely belong to, the St Andrews School Military Band. I miss having band practice in the Jacob Ballas band room. I miss playing for Singapore Festival Winds batch 2002. I miss playing in the Sydney Opera House, Esplanade, Victoria Concert hall and many other places. I miss cheering and losing all common sense after getting Gold for syf. I miss being part of the Heroes of the school. I miss belonging to a house with a proper name. I miss playing rugby and cricket during PE. I miss the morning sharings we have everyday. I miss standing in the DD Chelliah Quadrangle with my classmates. I miss hearing "May the peace of the Lord be always with you.". I miss replying "And also with you!" with my classmates and the echo resounding on 4 sides of the enclosed quandrangle. I miss singing the end of term hymn. I miss the good old days.
I want to do all of the above again. I want to relive the good old days. Lord, can you hear my prayer?
I thank you for all that you've given me though. You've given me an experience I could never have at any other school. I really appreciate it. Being part of your flock for awhile was fantastic.
And i pray this in your son's precious name. Amen.
It seems as though as its going to pour any moment now. Sky's so dark and the force of the wind is such that i can even hear it even when Im listening to my music. The rustling of leaves however, sounds really pleasant to my ears and the cool weather is such a welcome.
I really want to up my stamina, and increase my weight by at least 5kg by the end of this year. Feel like investing in a new game to kill time during the hols other than FM06. Sigh.
FatigueA rose that blooms on the battlefield for the reason that they dun know, is trampled again today by a trank that can only move forward. Hates and pain, hatred is growing. Thats a live image of the world we live in.
Embrace me, tighter than ever, I hear your voice on a restless night. For a reason they dun know, the world will drown in blood someday, all around the world. Let me forget the news, for I dont want to know.
Nobody reason, nobody is sure where is the end. Just a little bit more, I dont care if its all lies, just sing for me.
Look ya'all the information the mass media is feeding us is more convoluted than ever. They paint a bleak picture of our outnumbered existence. Reason is combustible, we're at a stage where Man has lost all restraint, our body and soul continue to be baptized.
If this rickety, powerless ark continues rowing along...no one confessed that it was wrong. I dont care if its all lies, just sing for me.

Public EnemyProject Work is now Public Enemy no.2, just losing to the aedes mosquito by a narrow margin. I found out today that the "supposed" oral presentation we were to have on next tuesday in front of the panel of the judges was actually a briefing.
And 04b4 was like
"wtf"
.
Again
.
Today's pw was slightly more productive than yesterday's...BUT IT STILL SUCKS. I hate everything there is about PW. Dun talk to me about PW. PW SUCKS BIG TIME. Going back to school on a saturday sucks the most.
But for muslims...what they would be thinking now is that...fasting sucks to the max. Haha but then...the porridge heikael and najib brought back from the mosque smell really nice. According to Farhan, some mosques serve really delicious porridge. Hahaha i really feel like trying some of it someday. Its chicken porridge by the way.
And poor Mrs Heng...she cant have chinese lessons with us because it seems like everyday is taken up by PW for the whole day.
I hate both chinese and pw.

Finally! The very last paper, SEA history. Maybe because it was the last paper, or because my brain was too saturated from the past few days of studying, it refused to absorb any information i tried to put in yesterday night and today morning. Therefore, I went into the exam hall with a foreboding feeling that something bad would happen. Coupled with the strong wind howling like there's no tomorrow, it feels as though as it was a scene out of "The Haunting".
My reaction when i first saw the 4 essay questions would be a cross between "what the FUCK?!" and "im finished". As if that was not enough, there was this weird smell coming from somewhere...and I shall name this smell...
THE FUCKING ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE FUCKING SPOTLESS MIND. Ah okay...that feels better. I was like being suffocated by that stupid weird/bad smell at the start of the paper. Luckily at the start, Mr Raj decided to switch on the aircon at the back, which for the first time in my exam history, was extremely thankful for that. The cool blast of air dissipated some of the smell...BUT NOT ALL. It was only when Mrs Wee switched on the fans was air circulation improved vastly, and I was able to breathe easier.
Argh. I need money to buy the Return of the Condor Heroes. If not I'll have nothing to do to kill time.
WAH LAO IT FUCKING STINKS LA KAN NEE NA BEI CHAO CHEE BYE.ps: I am sincerely sorry for the use of vulgarities...BUT IT WAS REALLY DAMN BAD LAR.

With all those natural disasters that has been happening lately, ever since the tsunami that unfortunately struck Aceh and other countries, I've been saddened by the extent of the destruction. This shows us the ugly side of Man as well, when the looting starts in the aftermath of the disaster, so aptly seen in the case of Hurricane Rita in New Orleans. It is also extremely incredible that some christians would say that this is a work of God, for punishing people that do not believe in Him (btw, sk and dom refuses to associate themselves with such people). In my opinion, if anyone should burn in hell, it should be those bastards. What the hell is wrong with them?
On to something lighter, Im neutral about today's lit paper. Hopefully after this, I've managed to scrap together at least an ao pass. Tomorrow's SEA history, and after that, onto worrying for PW and Chinese As already!
Sheesh.

An add on
Some people really have all the intelligence in the world. Unbelieveably good results for promos and yet still extremely unhappy with it because apparently, the rest of the world beat her. I'll be extremely happy if I end up with your prelims results for As, its like BBB? Although I've neglected to mention your O, which sort of unbalance the otherwise pretty good score, Im sure you'll perform admirably for your As. You dun have to worry too much. I have confidence you'll ace your exams and make it to which ever faculty you want to enter.-
Can you lend me some coins? I want to buy a drink.

Maybe because I didnt get the sufficient rest my body wanted, I woke up today and did all my papers feeling halfway between the real world and my dream world, with my body screaming out at me to just put my head down and get some rest. It was a sort of a weird experience, and everything felt kind of surreal. There was this pounding in my head gradually getting stronger as the day wore on. It didnt help that khai behind me was sniffling away due to the air conditioning, which my pounding migraine amplified the sound by 10. Finally, it felt as though as my world was spinning on the wrong plane, making me feel light headed, feverish and perpetually nauseous.
If dom didnt message me yesterday night asking whether I had a spare calculator, I would have totally forgotten about the econs paper1 and 2 today. No fuss though, since I had already decided not to study for it. Anyway I was just a little pissed that my afternoon was taken away from me which I had planned to use to study for Lit paper 2. And right now, Im contemplating whether I should just skip the preparations for Lit, and go straight and try to absorb something for SEA history on wednesday.
I just heard that apparently we have to stay back on wednesday after our paper to do PW. Sigh although not unexpected, it kinda sucks. Having chinese lessons everyday in preparation for A levels sucks too. Not being able to find anything substantial to write during any exam sucks the most.
Would you cry over me? Nah. Guess not. Haha my apologies. It was a pretty awkward question anyway.

I absolutely hate it when people wake me from my sleep. Instead of getting a decent rest, I get pulled unceremoniously out of unconsciousness back into the real world. Its damn pissing if you're damn tired and somehow, people keep waking you via a variety of methods like
- unknown phonecalls from unknown numbers.
- smsing you at the most incorrect time.
- start practice with the lion dance troupe at 7pm.
- blasting open your room door instead of opening it gently.
- then proceeding to use the comp instead of giving me some peace.
the list just goes on. I just cant believe my bad luck. Maybe i'll start praying to God to allow me some uninterrupted rest. If you're thinking of buying a new cd, get Bon Jovi's Have A Nice Day. It has some really fantastic songs.
I am worrying for my group's written report.

Withdrawn from the front line, a brief reprieve, respite. A chance to fall back regroup and rethink tactics. A chance to maybe come out unscathed in this war.
Went out to study with dom...and I think I've finished with Return of the Native, Measure for measure and whats that book again? Oh yea...Othello! I've asked myself at times, "why take a subject you have no experience in?" Maybe I should have opted for a geog and history combination because literature is so hard to study for, but then MI doesnt offer it...probably because they would not have enough teachers if too many people choose this combi.
Dom : "You were like eternal sushine of the spotless mind last year. This year you're sort of rainy days only with the occasional sun rays."
Dom thinks I make him sound like a lot of things he's not. First, I made him sound too cute to lynn. Then, I made him sound like a bastard to phoebe (his words, not mine.) and finally, I make him sound stupid all the time by repeating his words in a whine-y sort of way.
If there's something called battle weariness, exam fatigue definitely exists.

Woot! Its Friday! Didnt get that? Let me spell it out for you;
F-R-I-D-A-Y! Finally the long awaited day that signals a brief break in my hectic schedule for this week called the exams. At least now, most of the scary papers are gone. (Lit paper 8 unseen, check. Econs paper 3, check. History paper 1, check.)
For today's history paper, im pretty glad its in the morning since I wouldnt relish taking a 3 hour paper starting at 2.30pm because its friday and the muslims have to pray. The only grip i have about the paper is that I ran out of time and had to cut short my conclusion on the unification on germany. Hmm maybe they shld extend the paper to 3 and a half hours so we can a
little more time to work on our essays.
After the paper, went to town to watch Goal! with dom and saw more than a few jc students around. Finally surmised that most jcs have ended their promos and its MI who started later. Well i suppose this is payback since we're always so quick on PW and all...what was it I wanted to say...? Oh yea, because we ended our paper so early (11am) and caught the movie at 12.30pm, after the movie ended it was only about close to 3. Dom commented that he already thought it was like 5 in the evening and after realising it was 3, felt like singapore is on daylight savings. To a certain extent, I agree too!
Went to kino, got the books I wanted, saw the SEA history texts which are so expensive with user unfriendly font, went to paragon to do some window shopping, and realised that the shop directories are user unfriendly too, and we saw 2
gays. One of them was wearing bright
red lipstick and that kind of tapered jeans girls normally wear...you know the super tight ones which contour to your legs? Oh my god...and I dared dom to asked for their nos. Haha!
I read the testimonial Bert wrote for Riccia! Its damn hilarious la haha you people(o4b4) should go and take a look at it.
Mimicking bert.
"I DUN LIKE HER LORRRRRRRRRRRRRR."Finally, a paper I felt as though as I've managed to give my best in.

D day plus one After looking at the economics paper today, I do not not what Im doing, writing 3 superficial essays that any competent idiot could write without any knowledge in econs. One thing's for sure, I'll do better to go hang myself and not face the music instead. Chose 3 questions, the wage difference question, the GDP question and the Inflation question. Did the best I could do under the circumstances.
Wait. Fullstop. Back up. Reality check.
I did not do the best I could. Thats because I did not study for the paper. If I did, then could I say I did the best I could. However right now, im lying to myself. Thats the reality and it hurts. A slap in the face all too late to wake me up. Im stunned. Hopefully I'll do better for both history and literature. Then again, I can stop the wishful thinking. I will not do well for them as I didnt study at all.
Reality check again. Sigh.
The war has barely started and I've already lost 2 battles.

D dayGot woken up by a bloody phone call that i never got to answer, because by the time i tried to pick it up the person hung up already. For a moment, i was wondering wildly what woke me up (i was delirious you see) and finally realised it was only my cellphone ringing.
I hate unknown numbers.
Today's paper was halfway between an okay and a disaster, and I can tell myself I did the best to salvage the situation as i could, and now, I can only wait for the axe to fall. Literature paper 8 was always an unknown and unexpected variable factor anyway.
Economics essay tomorrow! I dun know how im gonna study any economics principles now that Im running a slight fever, and anyway I was already contemplating whether to skip studying economics and go straight to history anyway, since this year history seems to be the easier subject to pass. And after this would be the weekends, where I can have a short 2 days of rest and relaxation plus mugging for my literature papers that are due to take place next week.
The axe is waiting to fall.
